The art journal lesson this month was about adding texture to the journal page, creative use of everyday items, and making simple stamps to use over and over on our pages.
To make texture we used a thick coat of gesso on a sturdy 140lb. watercolor page. Then we used all sorts of fun tools to make interesting designs in the gesso:
- toilet paper tubes
- corrugated cardboard
- plastic forks
- stencils
- cheesecloth
- bubble wrap
- and of course our fingers!
While that was drying, we had fun “carving” stamps out of craft foam.
Then we started playing with paint, adding the stamped image to our page, and just plain exploring the possibilities!
And, of course the best results are the happy faces!
Can’t wait until the next journaling class when will be using collage and detailing on our pages!
