This is one of those pieces that just evolved as it went. When I made the background, I had in mind some sort of aquatic scene with the blues and greens. After the background piece sat for a couple of days, I begin to have more of an urge to put some birds on it. Because the birds needed something to perch on, a tree grew into being. The painted part also went through a similar process, going through three other colors before finally deciding on this midnight blue, toned down a bit by rubbing in some white gesso. I did some touch ups with my favorite Derwent Inktense pencils. Then I added some random “scribbles” with a white paint marker, and the hint of some blue blossoms, and I was finally happy with the piece.

Thank you!

Love it! I love the way the shapes are formed by painting the negative space and I love all the textures and tones.

Thank you, I enjoy the challenge of thinking “negatively”!

Very attractive. I like the color combination. Actually, I like everything about it.
Did you use a wet brush on your Inktense pencil drawings or just leave it alone?

Thank you, Kathy! I did use a wet brush on the first round of Inktense, but then added more here and there later and left as is.
