Today is Independent Bookstore Day, celebrated by bookstores all over the country, including my own favorite local bookstore Bluebird Books of Hutchinson, Kansas. In honor of this day full of special events, I thought I would give you a little tour of the store, because it is just that cute!
The floor is well worth some attention as well with patches of colorful mosaic and a bluebird near the checkout counter.
I love the fun little sitting areas.
And the story time area makes me want to settle in with a good picture book!
Besides a great selection of books, they have all kinds of other fun things as well.
And, of course it is fun to spot some of my creations that they carry as well, like cards…
…bookmarks…
….and handmade journals and smash books made from vintage books.
For their celebration, they requested some special book themed cuffs.
It’s well worth a trip to check out, and you won’t want to miss their May 2 celebration with a day full of fun events and specials!

That looks like a fantastic bookstore. I love the mosaic floor and the seating area. Our village book store back home in Scotland was a very small, independent one. We felt very lucky, in such a small population (under 2000) to have access to a bookstore within walking distance of home. I should aim to find an independent bookstore here in the Philly suburbs.

You were fortunate indeed! Bookstores seem to be a dying breed in this electronic everything age! So glad to see these kind of “throwback” stores pop up and suceed! Hope you can find one in your area!

It’s a “hard row to hoe” as they say for independent booksellers. So glad they are staying on top of the online competition. I can’t even think of an independent bookstore anywhere in my area.
