This summer I was privileged to have the opportunity to create a piece of art alongside a child diagnosed with juvenile arthritis. I was surprised to learn that more than 3,000 children in the state of Kansas suffer from arthritis! Art for Arthritis is an event that auctions the art created by the child, and a companion piece created by the mentor artist to benefit the Arthritis Foundation. Several other items will be auctioned off as well, and it promises to be a fun evening.
The art currently hangs at Tessera Fine Art Gallery, and all the pieces look wonderful!
The eight year old artist I was paired with really wanted to paint on a repurposed surface, so we chose to do our artwork on some cabinet doors. She opted for a zebra (a delightfully colorful one!) so I did a giraffe.
Here we are hard at work in my messy studio..
I love watching children work! They have wonderful ideas, and such a freedom of expression!
If you are interested in attending the fundraising event…. It is Saturday, September 24 from 6:00 to 10:00pm at the Scottish Rite Center at 332 East 1st St. in Wichita, Kansas. Tickets can be purchased at ArtforArthritisWichita.org, or by calling (913) 262-2233.
Want to see more of my studio? (Hopefully less messy, but I am not making any promises!) Email me at victoryroad@hotmail.com for more information.
