There is so much that I take for granted in my life, that I don’t even know the depths of what to be grateful for! But on this day, I especially am thankful to all of those past and present who have sacrificed so much for all of us. My father is gone now, but his stories of serving in the Coast Guard during WWII and rescuing sailors from freezing waters after their ships had been sunk were sobering. The faces of those that they didn’t get to in time were the ones that still haunted him sixty years later. My father in law served in the Navy during those same years and had his own set of hardships and experiences, while being absent from a wife and two small children. They are just two among many, many, many who have made sacrifices that we now benefit from, probably in more ways than I can realize.
