I titled this piece “We are all in this Together” and it is a whopping (for me) 24 x 48 inches. It would look great above a sofa! This piece will be displayed for sale at the First National Bank in Hutchinson through the month of June. I had a lot of fun making all of these collage birds. Here is a bit about the process of making this piece. Hang in there and there is a special treat for you at the bottom of the page!
First I covered the canvas with strips of mostly blue National Geographic pages. Then I treated this with Citra Solv and used my “Run for the Hills” 12 inch stencil to scrub away part of the ink. I use this technique for the background in a lot of my artwork and teach it at my Citra solv workshops.
The birds were constructed individually with bits and scraps of papers, then added to the canvas along with the sheet music tree branches.
Since it will be hanging at the First National Bank, I thought it would be fun to include a bit of the inside of of one of their envelopes.
I added finishing touches and shading with Derwent Inktense pencils in my favorite bark and paynes gray.
Prints of these birds are available as little stickers in my etsy shop! They come all packaged up nicely and ready to use.
I had so much fun making these birds that I decided to share them on a digital collage page now available in my etsy shop. And for you, my special blog reader friends, I have a FREE printable for you to use in your personal projects!

Kayann: When is your next class on the citrasolv with the birds? I would come back to Wichita to take your class.

Carol, that would be so fun! I am working on my 2019 workshop schedule now… so I should be letting you know in the next few weeks!
