This summer my husband and I went camping in Colorado. I was struck by how central the Arkansas River was to the scenery and activities of our area. River rafting, tubing, and beautiful river cut scenery. Up in the mountains where we were camping, an unnamed stream rushed its way through the campgrounds. I delighted in just soaking in the sounds of it.
Even back home in Kansas, a notoriously dry state, the Arkansas River runs just a mile and a half from us. The road we live on stops at the river, then continues on the other side. There is the designation of whether someone lives north of the river, or south of the river. In nearby Wichita, the river runs right by the downtown area, and is made much of.
All of those thoughts were in mind as I created this piece – “A River Runs Through”. No matter where you live, there is a rootedness to the nearest river.
This piece is currently hanging at Tessera Fine Art Gallery in Wichita. If you are interested in prints, check here.
