“Our Kansas”

“Our Kansas”

This piece was recently accepted into Carriage Factory Gallery‘s “Kansas Through the Eyes of the Artist” Show, which will be hung in January in honor of Kansas’ birthday as a state. For you local folks, the opening reception of this show will be January 19 at 7pm.  The name is a play on the Arkansas River that runs through Kansas.  Kansans prefer to pronounce it ‘ar KANSAS’ while elsewhere is prounounce ‘ARR kan saw’.  The river runs just a couple of miles from my home, so I claim it as my own.

This piece is one of a few I have done recently that I think of as “island collages”.  The landscape seems freestanding on top of a coordinating background. I don’t do a lot of landscapes, but I did enjoy making these!

The other piece that was accepted into the “Kansas Through the Eyes of the Artist” show was “Reaching”.  I am fascinated by trees, and especially the root system that reaches and grows toward what it needs…. a water supply below, and sunlight above. Read my post about the making of “Reaching”.
