Poppy Plethora was made by first splashing, dripping, and blowing a canvas full of inks and paints in poppy colors.
This canvas floated around for awhile and was even forgotten in a gallery closet for awhile. I once heard that every great artist has a closet full of dud art, so that is a bit encouraging! But instead of seeing them as a dud, I like to think of them as pieces that just aren’t finished yet!
I finally decided to finish up this closeted piece by painting in some negative spaces. I isolated individual poppies and stems by carefully painting around each with a dusty blue paint.
I added in more subtle stems to end up with a deep stretched canvas covered with a plethora of poppies!
Do you have any unfinished art or creative projects hanging around waiting for you to return to it?
While I am sharing art, I need to share the art that lies outside my front door…
I am not a winter fan, and I normally love tons of color, but this nearly black and white landscape is a bit mesmerizing to me. Maybe I need to make some black and white art, it is so striking!
Did you catch all the March news? If not, you will want to go back and read it. Big changes this month… and hopefully a change to spring temperatures as well!

Kayann … this is so lovely and to see the transformation is fascinating!! I want to definitely try this in my art journal on a page (or two, three!!) that I wasn’t all that thrilled with. Esp love the color you chose, really makes those poppies POP!!
