Pyramid Pullup for Your Art Journal

When buying books for my children when they were young, I was a sucker for those lift the flap, tabbed, spinning, tunneled books with all manner of moving parts.  They were just so FUN for both my children and myself! There are so many ways to add fun to your art journal too!

One of the fun little add ins I have done in my journals is the PYRAMID PULLUP. When flat, you really don’t even notice it (hence my little butterfly with a ‘LIFT’ tab). This is a great way to partially hide an image, or journaling that may be a little more private.

To create your own:

  • Need an exact square of paper and a pair of scissors. Thinner paper (mine is from a map) works better than heavy paper. Any size of paper will do as long as it is square, so choose according to the size of your journal!
  • Fold square in half to make a large triangle.
  •  Fold the large triangle in half making a smaller triangle
  •  Make perpendicular cuts from the 2 folded edges. Make sure not to intersect the cutting lines, and do not cut all the way to the edge.
  • Unfold and enjoy! To attach into your journal, first finish what will be underneath the pyramid. Then put adhesive only on the outer edge of the underside of the pyramid to glue onto the page.

Watch a Flips, Flaps, and Fun YouTube video that I made awhile back of this and other moving parts and fun bits in my travel journals. Are there any other pages you would like instructions on?o check what’s
