Okay, so I am not a politician, not a world leader, not even a public speaker. But I believe that we all make an impact on our world, however small that change may be. When we adopted four of our children, I was staggered by the number of children in foster care, and the percentage of them that would likely spend their entire childhood there, becoming adults with no place to call home. Well, I sure can’t change the fate of all of them, but I could change that for four.
It is easy for us to begin believing that our small contribution is meaningless, that any meager effort we can make to change our world is futile. Not so! What if we all did a little something on THIS day to make the world a better place? A kindness, a smile, a good word, a loving gesture….what might happen to the world we live in? It is in the small things that the world changes. Positive change does not come by world leaders and powerful nations, it comes by God using you, and using me, in our homes and communities. It comes by us being willing to give a little more, love a little more, right where we are.
For this piece I started with a normal thrift shop globe. This one is extra nice because it tilts for a good view of all parts of the world. I removed the world from the stand, which was then spray painted a nice glossy brown. The globe itself is painted with acrylics in a mix of blue an turquoise for the oceans. On the continents, I added bits of pieces of book pages which I then painted over with browns, rusts and golds in acrylic. The words were hand painted in the ocean areas in deeper blues. In addition to the featured quote are the Gandhi inspired words, “Be the change you want to see in the world by starting in your little corner” and “It is love that makes the world go around.” in recognition of the love of the Creator of our world.
