Tomorrow I will be teaching a “Paint with Paper” workshop at Tessera Fine Art Gallery, so as usual I did a little brushing up on technique this week. I had been wanting to do a series of cups, and the subject matter seemed especially suited to collage. As I created this series of three pieces, I gave myself the rule of using ONLY paper to not only shape, but shade my pieces. No paint in these pieces, just bits of my paper stash.
I will say that some of the papers had been mono printed, or decorated with paint at some previous point in time, but I used them the same as I did my other found and purchased papers. I love the slightly wonky look that seems to happen when I do collage work.
I enjoyed making this series of three different sizes; 10 x 10, 6 x 6, and 4 x 4 inch wood panels. All three contain at least one postage stamp in the piece…there are a total of 6 all together. Can you find them all?
If you are interested in any or all of these pieces, they are at Tessera Fine Art Gallery in Wichita.
If you are interested in tomorrow’s workshop, call the gallery at (316) 262-2435 to see if there is a spot open.
