Keeper

“Keeper” is my representation of “Keeper of the Plains”, a 44 foot tall statue designed by Native American artist Blackbear Bosin (1921-1980) and constructed by Tom Washburn of Architectural Metal Products.  It stands atop a 30 foot rock in Wichita, Kansas where the Arkansas and Little Arkansas rivers meet. In my representation, I have included words and images that I connect with the city.  There are elements of Kansas… a sunflower, wheat, a meadowlark.. and more localized elements like gears, aircraft industry, leaves, WSU, ICT, and the Wichita flag.  I also tried to indicate a bit of the tone set by the community in a couple mentions of the arts, the up pointing arrow, the word future; all of which indicate in my mind a positive movement for the city.

All is executed on a Citra Solv altered background on a 15 x 30 inch canvas.  It currently hangs at Tessera Fine Art Gallery.  Call (316) 262-2435 if interested in purchasing.

And here is the real “Keeper of the Plains”:
