Pour It On!

While most of my art is not of the poured variety, I can’t resist jumping onto the poured paintings bandwagon!  There are just so many ways you can go about it for really cool effects.  Anything that is conducive to playing like a mad scientist in my studio/laboratory and involves a torch is something I will sign up for!  I have been playing around with these, concocting recipes and discovering lots of fun techniques! Above is the basic dirty pour.  In the one below I poured the pimary colors on separately, then mixed by tilting the canvas and manipulating with a skewer.

This one was poured into white to leave some white space, but I had too much paint and it ended up settling over the sides with only a tiny corner left of the white. Still pretty though!

This one was a little more successful, I think with a “dirty swoosh” on white.

Since most of my work is more representational even when abstract, I had to try to make my pours BE something….. not so easy!  I am pretty happy with my spooky tree though.

I also have a landscape in the works….more to come on my pouring adventures!

If you want to join in on the pouring fun, come to Tessera Fine Art Gallery in Wichita on Saturday May 19, 9am to noon to make your own pours!  Call the gallery at (316) 262-2435 to sign up. Cost is $45 all supplies included.
