Easy Peasy Mixed Media Valentine Cards

posted in: CRAFTY HOW TO | 2

When my kids were young, the week before Valentine’s Day meant creating enough homemade Valentine’s for all of their classmates at school. I insisted they make them for two reasons: It was good for them to create, and it made the cards more meaningful. Often, theirs was the only hand made Valentine in the classroom.

In 2021 I have decided to send more cards. In this time where we are more physically distant from each other, it is a way to have some meaningful connection. When I decide to send Valentine cards to my grandkids (16 of them!), they of course had to be homemade. But since I was make several, I also needed them to be quick and easy!

You can watch the process on You Tube:

The steps are simple. First I randomly glued on some papers here and there, which also help destash my collage bits! I simply used a glue stick to keep things speedy!

Next, I added acrylic paint. A bit of fluorescent paint really added some glow!

Finally, I cut out a heart shape to make a mask, and used a cosmetic sponge to dab on white gesso all around the heart. That’s it!

If you would like a batch of Valentine themed collage papers, consider becoming a Patron, it is the most reasonable way to get collage sheets, stickers, etc.

And I also want to remind you all that the Klimt Made Easy mixed media online workshop is now open for registration! The classes will open on Friday, February 12, but the introduction, supply video, and collage sheets are accessible now!

And, if you want a safe environment to get out and about, come check out my show at Carriage Factory Art Gallery in the Koehn gallery upstairs through April 9. There will be a meet and greet by appointment on Thursday, Feb. 18. Just call the gallery at (316) 284-2749 to let them know when you would like to come! You can check out the Kansas Day Exhibit downstairs at the same time!

And finally, if you are interested in my Faux Stained Glass mixed media workshop, it is being offered at Dillon Nature Center in Hutchinson as a two part course on Feb. 16 and 23 from 6-9pm. Call the nature center at (620) 663-7411 to sign up.
