In this workshop, guest teacher Kelsi Depew will be teaching participants how to make a traditional whisk broom in the morning, and a kitchen broom in the afternoon. Participants should be prepared to use their hands and feet to craft these brooms. You will be seated and your feet only need to be able to hold a foot treadle still while pulling the broom tight against the cord with your hands. You will learn a short history on broom-making and explore different styles of brooms before choosing materials to complete your own. Once a broom is started, it should be completed before lunch or leaving the workshop as there is not a good way to 'pause' the project. Materials will be provided, but if you have any special charms or additions (dried plants, beads, stones, charms, feathers, etc.) you would like to incorporate into your broom, you may bring them. There will be a Beef and Rice Bowls lunch package option (see website) that includes toppings, sauces, a drink, and dessert, but no lunch pickup for this workshop.

Guest teacher Abby Anderson will b e teaching the Japanese Kinusaiga no-sew fabric technique to create an imagined landscape as well as a Kimekomi ornament. This process is great for beginners who want to dabble in fiber arts with no experience needed. If you are a sewer or fiber artist with so many scraps of fabric that you don't know what to do with, you will learn the long-enjoyed technique that will make great use of all those bits of fabric.

Accordion fold journals are fun and easy to make, so we will make a few sizes and styles, including cute little ones using vintage matchbook covers. In addition to creating and decorating our little books, we will talk about how to use them. Keeping a sketchbook/journal builds our skills of creativity and observation, and you don't have to be super at drawing to do it! These can be little glue books, full of doodles, or whatever works for you. I will give a challenge of filling a panel each day for a week.... but you can adapt that however you wish. Maybe you will illustrate the gifts you buy or make. Maybe you will doodle your favorite tree ornaments. Maybe you will draw your outfit each day. So many fun possibilities! You can do this, and I will tell you how to make it easy!
