This page is actually a lighthearted tribute to my mom. Most of the women of her day followed the expectation that they would settle down to marriage and family. That is a fine choice, but my mother wanted more. She overcame many obstacles to eventually become a scientist and business woman. On this whimsical page, I portray her as a bird who has “flown the coop”.
On this whimsical page, I portray her as a bird who has “flown the coop”. I painted over a photocopy of a favorite photo and used it as a collage element with a bird body, and some stripy legs.
This page has a “tab” made from a tag that I decorated months ago. I added a raven from my own digital collage sheet, available for purchase here.
I used my own handwriting on the page. The border is made from a leaf stamp that I cut myself for a different project. By alternating direction, I think it makes an interesting design.
And that’s the page! Are there any “coops” you struggle to break free from?
