Thoughts of Migration

“Thoughts of Migration” is another of my reverse mixed media paintings.  This time I used a Citra Solv altered map page for the background.

On top of this I sketched in my tree, leaves, and bird.  First I painted the background with gesso, being careful to not cover any of the foreground images. Then I painted over the gesso with acrylic layers of teal, cerulean blue, and pthalo green.

I added just hints of paint to the bird, tree, and leaves so that the map images would still show through.

Finally, I added some cheery little blossoms.

This is one of the pieces I worked on while camping with birds tweeting in the trees all around me! Talk about an inspiring setting!

(This original piece is matted and framed under glass and is available at Tessera Fine Art Gallery in Wichita. Call (316) 262-2435 if interested)
