“Extravaganza” Fingerpainted Flowers

This total canvas field of flowers was done as a demo piece at a recent private workshop.  I just love getting my fingers into the paint and playing around without much plan or forethought.  Usually I do a vase of flowers, but I am kind of intrigued with the completely flower covered look.  This started out looking like a sloppy drippy mess, but little by little started to take on more form and definition. The only real detail work was done with the use of frisket, or masking fluid, in a 20 gauge needle nosed bottle.  I also added some splatters with the help of a paintbrush.

I am looking forward to teaching this workshop a couple times in March, and making more fingerpainted flowers!

This is my current gallery wall, though it will be coming down soon to be replaced with new art.  Tonight is Final Friday, so hope all of you local folks stop by Tessera Fine Art Gallery between 5:00 and 9:00.  I will be in the classroom demonstrating an art technique, so stop by and say hi!
