North of November is an intuitive mixed media work that has evolved over several months. I first created a background, then it sat around for awhile while I contemplated where it should go next. The man was a later addition inspired by a magazine image of a man in a hard hat, painted over with a change of hat and clothing, keeping only the posture. Now he has a comical sort of appearance. I think he is contmplating the many things swirling around in his busy and somewhat chaotic mind… something I can well identify with! The nonsensical name seems to fit the whimsical nature of the piece. This is a bit different than most of my pieces, but it was a fun, unplanned, and refreshing approach that I think I will try to do more of.
