Today is National Watercolor Day! While watercolor is not my primary medium, I do enjoy fooling around with it on my coloring pages, in my art journals, and in sketchbooks. I love the fluidity of it and even the feeling that it has a mind of its own!
To celebrate, I am offering one of my watercolor illustrations from back in 2013 as a digital print for your personal enjoyment!
To make this piece, I watercolored the area where the hair would be with a rainbow of color. Then I drew in my words, and a few designs, and painted the rest of the hair area black around the letters and patterns. I love this kind of look with watercolor, but it does take a bit of time to carefully paint all of that negative space!
