“Three Little Chickadee, Sitting in a Birch Tree”

Chickadees are one of my favorite birds to collage, mainly because their natural colors are perfectly suited to using vintage papers for collage.  I love using things like book pages and old newspapers to create their creamy colored feathers. These chickadee are perched on birch tree branches on a stenciled Citra Solv background. I put my birds together seperately, then perched them on my branches.

I also made use of papers that I made with my new rolling pin stamps. My daughter and I both made one in our own sort of style using sticky back foam on rolling pins.

I painted over some of my roller printed kraft paper with yellow, and used in my leaves.

I especially love the frame for this piece. It was a lucky find with its beautiful wood and live edges!

Tomorrow I will be doing a painted papers as well as a collage and paint workshop at Tessera Fine Art Gallery.  Participants will get to use my favorite printmaking supplies… stamps, stencils, brayers, spirograph, my new rolling pins, and more to make beautiful hand painted papers, perfect for collage.  In the afternoon session we will use those papers in some floral collage work.

Tonight I will be participating in Maker’s Street in Lindsborg.  I will be at the Red Barn Studio from 5 to 8… I hope you can stop by!  If you have never been there, it is worth the trip! Besides hanging out with some great Lindsborg artists, I will be working on some small collage pieces, and will also have some giftable items for sale like prints, card sets, painted pumpkins, floral globes, ornaments…

Also, my 2019 calendars are here!  They are listed on etsy, and will soon be at Tessera Fine Art Gallery as well.

Hope you all have a great weekend!
