Meow Wolf

Back just before the Covid 19 outbreak, My husband and I took Buster on a trip to California, stopping some fun places on the way. One of those stops was Meow Wolf in Santa Fe. What fun! I am kind of at a loss to even explain it! It is part art installation, part fun house, part mystery, and just plain a lot of fun!

First, you go into a Victorian ‘house’ (everything is indoors). There you find a furnished home where you can touch the decor, read the books, and peruse the mysterious notes left by the inhabitants that introduce the mystery. From there, you can enter other worlds through unusual access points like the fireplace, the refrigerator, the dryer, and more! It reminds me of entering Narnia through the magical wardrobe… I was actually kind of surprised not to find one!

And then, everything becomes magical!

Over 100 artists have created this amazing, interactive, installation of fun! Almost everything is touchable, climbable, and there is a surprise around every corner! It is like wandering through a maze of rooms, and stairs, and adventures.

Can you tell which is wall, and which is floor? Or was it ceiling? Some ‘rooms’ felt very disorienting!

And then there would be a rather plain wall, with a tiny little window to a diorama…

I also enjoyed the childlike, neon illustrations that glowed from any spare wall spaces. There were no blank walls… anywhere! Even the halls and restrooms were filled with art! Those of you doing workshops with me… note the mark making on this wall, as well as the charm of the imperfect drawing and lettering!

I hope this gives you a tiny taste of what an amazing experience Meow Wolf is. Be sure and visit their website and scroll down to watch the video. Besides this one in Sante Fe, there will also be one opening this year (if not delayed by covid) in Las Vegas, Nevada, and another opening in Denver, Colorado in 2021.

Have you ever been to one? Kids would LOVE it, but it could be tricky to keep track of them. When the world starts back up again, this is worth a stop. We only spent a couple of hours, but you could easily spend the better part of a day here!

We had lots of art show trips scheduled in Buster this spring and summer which were of course canceled. But I look forward to more Buster adventures one day! I will be sharing some conversion updates soon!

Where are you itching to go when travel can resume?
